Christopher Esber has launched his first-ever retail store at the Strand Arcade. The Resort 25 Collection has launched in-store, including a range of clothing, accessories and swimwear.
Harmoniously blending structured silhouettes with fluid drape, Esber subverts the notions of convention with design concepts informed by his background in tailoring, use of negative space and sculptural hardware, creating new silhouettes that inspire ideas of escapism and sensuality. Inspired by the idea of a working woman daydreaming of a holiday or escape, he mixes codes of officewear with beach culture, exploring the contrasting tension between the two. Structure, sensuality and a connection to nature remain consistent throughout each collection. The designer works with deconstruction and reconstruction, designing by subtraction to work an idea down to its purest form, creating a new take on relaxed glamour.
Having graduated from Sydney’s Fashion Design Studio in 2008 with a collection that piqued industry interest, Australian designer Christopher Esber founded his eponymous brand in 2010. In a pursuit of innovation and advancement of traditional techniques, the designer works with skilled craftspeople and operates an in-house atelier, regularly collaborating with artisans throughout France, Italy, Switzerland and Spain.
In 2012, Esber made his New York Fashion Week debut and was named recipient of the L’Oreal National Designer Award. He won the regional Woolmark Prize in 2014, and in the same year was selected by Sara Maino as the recipient of Vogue Italia’s Most Talented Designer Award for Australia-Pacific.
Following years of growth fuelled by the endorsement of the world’s leading luxury retailers, a burgeoning ready-to-wear business and accessories expansion, the designer was invited by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode to make his on schedule debut at Paris Fashion Week in September 2023 following which he was awarded Designer of the Year at the Australian Fashion Laureate.
In June 2024, he was named recipient of the Grand Prix Prize at the ANDAM Awards - the first ever Australian to be nominated and to win the prestigious prize, and in September 2024 was inducted into the Business of Fashion BoF500 Class of 2024, the definitive index of the people shaping the global fashion industry.
His designs have been worn by A-listers including Margot Robbie, Kylie Jenner and Daisy Edgar Jones.
